Students and Parents/Guradians,

Welcome to the fourth grade!  Our team is looking forward to an

exciting academic year.  In order to help answer some of the questions that

accompany a new year, we have compiled this handbook.

In the handbook you will find our expectations, procedures, subject

information, class schedules, and general information.  Also, included are

forms that you may need such as the medication consent form.

Please read through this handbook.  If you have any questions, please

contact us at 735-4340, or send a note, or correspond through e-mail, and we

will respond as soon as possible.  After familiarizing yourself with the

handbook, please sign and return the last page.  Keep the handbook for

future reference or use.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Assignment planner:  A planner is required for grades 4-6 at Central Elementary.  Planners may be purchased the first week of school for the cost of $2.75.  We have found the planner to be an excellent tool in helping students to keep track of assignments, homework, tests, etc.  Each day the student is to write assignments in the planner.  Assignments that are considered homework will be indicated in the planner with "HW".  Please review this planner with your child on a daily basis.

Homework:  We try to give students ample time to complete daily work in class.  However, any daily work not completed in class in considered homework.  On occasion, special projects and assignments may be given as homework.  A daily review of the assignments planner will help keep you informed of the status of assignments.  (You can also check the infinite campus web site on a regular basis.)

Homework folder:  A two pocket folder will be used as the "Homework folder".  It should always be kept with the assignment planner.

Late assignments:  If an assignment is one day late it is assessed a 10 point penalty, two days late a 20 point penalty.  Thereafter, the highest possible score is 50%.  (School policy)

Thursday folders:  A Thursday folder containing the student's work and information from the school will be sent home EVERY THURSDAY.  Please be sure to sign the folder and return it as soon as possible.

Absent work:  Work is expected to be made up if a student is absent.  It is the student's responsibility to ask the teacher for clarification of any missed assignments.  A student will have the same number of days to complete the missing assignments as the number of days absent.  For example, 2 days absent means 2 days to make up the work.  If the student requests assignments before being absent, then the work is due upon the student's return.

Correction of work policy:  Students may correct daily work if they scored 69% or below as long as the paper is not late.  This excludes tests.
